New sorority house

Construction on W&L’s sixth sorority house for Alpha Delta Pi will begin in the spring of 2010 according to the latest update.  It’s going right next to Kappa, closet to the footbridge.

Derby Days

I’ve always said there’s only two times a year when it matters which sorority someone is a member of, rush week and Sigma Chi Derby Days. There are practices for powder puff, uniforms, strategic collection of pennies, etc.

I remember a scandalous skit performed one night by friends who are now doctors, teachers and lawyers.  Blows my mind!

Phi Psi suspended for one year

In January the IFC issued a statement saying Phi Psi had violated the University’s hazing policy, placing them on social probation.  The University Board of Appeals then overturned the IFC’s findings, deeming them inappropriate, and voted 4-0 to suspend them from campus for one year.  Phi Psi must also with with its headquarters to revise its new member education program and risk management and must submit their newly revised education program to the office of Greek Life.

The former Phi Psi president submitted a letter to the editor of the now-online Trident.  I’m not saying right or wrong, just more information about the case.

Fire at Pi Phi

I drove by this morning and the whole front of the house is burned.  Remember when the plane crashed there?  Here’s link to the paper.

Cause?  People are guessing a cigarette in the mulch started it.

The officical word, “All residents of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity house were successfully evacuated this morning when a pre-dawn fire caused major damage to the building at 201 East Washington Street. One resident has been transported to Stonewall Jackson Hospital where he is being treated for apparent smoke inhalation. The fire began at about 4 a.m. and was brought under control at 6 a.m. According to fire department officials, both the fire alarm and sprinkler systems worked. The primary damage to the house is water damage from the sprinklers.  University officials are currently securing housing for the students who are likely to be moved to the Kappa Sigma house.”
